How to lodge your BAS from FlowFi in 5 minutes
FlowFi does not lodge your BAS for you. What it does is build the whole statement from your bank statement, with every ATO label filled in, so lodging is a copy-and-paste job you can do yourself through ATO Online. Most people finish in about five minutes.
If you would rather not lodge yourself, download the BAS pack and send it to your accountant or BAS agent. They lodge it, and you have saved them the sorting.
Six steps, start to finish
- Step 01
Open your BAS in FlowFi
Sign in, go to BAS, and pick the quarter you are lodging. FlowFi has already built the statement from the bank statements you uploaded, with GST worked out on every transaction, and shows every label on a copy-ready card. If you are working from the BAS reminder email, the same labels are already in it.
- Step 02
Check the labels
Give each figure a quick sanity check against what you expect for the quarter. If something looks off, fix the category on the transaction and the label updates.
Label What it is Note G1 Total sales All sales for the quarter, including GST. G10 Capital purchases Larger assets such as equipment or a vehicle. G11 Non-capital purchases Day-to-day business expenses. 1A GST on sales The GST you collected and owe. 1B GST on purchases The GST you paid and can claim back. PAYG instalment If applicable Only shows on your BAS if the ATO has put you in the PAYG instalment system. - Step 03
Log in to ATO Online
Go to my.gov.au, sign in, and open the Australian Taxation Office service. Then choose Business, Lodgments, Activity statements. Your current quarter will be listed there.
- Step 04
Copy each label across
Use the copy button next to each label on the FlowFi card and paste it into the matching label on the ATO form. Whole dollars only, no cents. The ATO form will calculate what you owe or what you are owed at the bottom.
- Step 05
Lodge and pay by the due date
Review the declaration and lodge. If you owe GST, pay it by the same due date using the payment reference number on the statement. If you are due a refund, the ATO pays it into the bank account you have registered with them.
- Step 06
Download your FlowFi BAS PDF for your records
Back in FlowFi, download the BAS PDF for the quarter and keep it with your receipts. The ATO expects you to keep records for five years, and this is the easy way to do it.
Quarterly BAS due dates
These are the standard dates when you lodge your own quarterly BAS online. If a date falls on a weekend or public holiday you have until the next business day. Registered BAS and tax agents usually get extra time, so if your accountant lodges for you, ask them for their deadline.
| Quarter | Period | Due date |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | July to September | 28 October |
| Q2 | October to December | 28 February |
| Q3 | January to March | 28 April |
| Q4 | April to June | 28 July |
FlowFi reminds you, with the labels filled in
You do not have to remember the dates above. Before each due date FlowFi emails you a BAS reminder with your labels already filled in from the statements you have uploaded, so you can check the numbers from your inbox and lodge the same day. In the app, the copy-ready labels card puts a copy button next to every figure.
Reminders are on by default and have their own switch in Settings, alongside the after-upload and Monday summary emails.
Prefer to hand it to your accountant?
Export the quarter from FlowFi as a PDF, CSV, Xero or MYOB file and send it across. Your accountant gets clean, categorised books with the GST already worked out, and spends their time on advice rather than sorting your bank statement. Either way, your money never passes through FlowFi and you can see every number before anything is lodged.
