Alternative

Looking for a MYOB alternative for sole traders? FlowFi is built for the one-person business

MYOB has been doing Australian accounting since the 1990s, and its ecosystem is built for accountants first: practice tools, ledgers, payroll and the MYOB Business range. MYOB Solo is its newer sole-trader product, priced around $10 to $15 a month, with bank feeds and an MYOB transaction account so income and spending can run through one place. If your accountant lives in MYOB, Solo is the obvious low-cost option and this page will not pretend otherwise.

FlowFi starts from the other end: the person doing their own books. You upload the bank statement you already have, from any bank, and AI turns it into categorised transactions, GST figures and a BAS you copy into ATO Online, with Tax Pot and full invoicing included. The full side-by-side is at FlowFi vs MYOB.

Why sole traders look for a MYOB alternative

An accountant-first ecosystem

MYOB grew up serving accounting practices, and it shows in the vocabulary, the coding workflow and the way features are organised. Solo softens that, but the platform underneath was not designed around a sole trader working alone on a Sunday night.

The transaction account model

Solo works best when your money runs through the MYOB transaction account and its feeds. Some sole traders want the bookkeeping without opening another account or moving where clients pay them.

Coding lines rather than reviewing them

Rules and feed matching still leave you coding a lot of transactions by hand. FlowFi's approach is AI categorisation with a confidence score, so you only look at the lines it is unsure about.

What you keep

  • Invoicing with PDF and email, pay links with bank transfer or PayID, quotes accepted online, recurring invoices, and opt-in chasing at 1, 7 and 14 days overdue.
  • GST flagged per transaction, deductions marked, and every BAS label prepared for ATO Online with a reminder before the due date.
  • Tax Pot: what to set aside for tax from your real numbers, the gap, and a weekly amount to close it, with optional super.
  • Receipts, mileage, a cash-flow forecast, and an accountant export that includes an MYOB-compatible format.

What you give up

  • Bank feeds and the MYOB transaction account. FlowFi has no bank connection; you export a CSV or PDF statement and upload it.
  • The lowest sticker price. Solo is around $10 to $15 a month; FlowFi Pro is $29 or $290 a year.
  • Lodging from inside the software. FlowFi prepares every label; you copy them into ATO Online in about five minutes, or send the pack to your accountant.
  • Your accountant working directly in an MYOB file. They get a clean export instead, or a user seat on the Business plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is FlowFi more expensive than MYOB Solo?

On the monthly price, yes. Solo is around $10 to $15 a month and FlowFi Pro is $29, or $290 a year. What you are paying for is different: AI categorisation of uploaded statements, deduction flagging, a BAS copy-guide, Tax Pot, and invoicing with pay links, quotes, recurring invoices and automatic chasing. Try both on a real statement and see which saves more of your evening.

Can my accountant get an MYOB file from FlowFi?

FlowFi exports an MYOB-compatible CSV, along with PDF, CSV and Xero formats. Your accountant can import it into their MYOB practice tools or work from the PDF pack. Because the data arrives categorised with GST worked out, the handover is usually quicker than a raw file.

Do I have to move my banking?

No. FlowFi never touches your money and does not provide a bank account. You keep whatever account you already have, with any bank, and upload statements from it. That is the opposite of the MYOB transaction account model, and for many sole traders it is the point.

What happens to my history in MYOB?

Export it before you cancel. MYOB can produce transaction and report exports; upload the CSV to FlowFi if you want your history in one place, and keep the PDF reports. The ATO requires five years of records regardless of which software you use.

Try FlowFi on your last bank statement

Upload one CSV or PDF and see categorised transactions, GST and BAS labels in minutes. No new bank account needed.
