Bank export guide

How to export a Commonwealth Bank (CBA) statement as CSV for your BAS

CommBank is the bank most Australian sole traders use, and NetBank has one of the easiest exports: an Export link sits on the transaction list and can pull several years of history into one CSV. The app can export too, and monthly PDF statements are always there as a fallback.

Steps checked 17 September 2026. Menu names change; if the label differs, look for Export, Download or Statements.

In NetBank (browser)

  1. 1Log in to NetBank and open the account you use for business from the Accounts list.
  2. 2On the transactions view, look for Export near the top right of the transaction list.
  3. 3Choose the date range you need, then select CSV as the format.
  4. 4Click Export and save the file. NetBank can export a few years of history in one file, so a full quarter or financial year is no problem.

In the CommBank app

  1. 1Open the CommBank app and tap the account.
  2. 2Tap the three-dot or Manage menu on the account screen and look for Export transactions.
  3. 3Choose the date range and CSV, then save or share the file to your phone or email.
  4. 4If your version of the app only shows Statements, those are monthly PDFs and upload just as well. Otherwise use NetBank in a browser.

Which format to pick

Choose CSV when it is offered. CommBank also provides OFX, QIF and PDF statements; the PDF statements are fine for FlowFi, while OFX and QIF are for other accounting packages and are not needed.

Which dates to pick

Export the whole BAS quarter in one file (1 July to 30 September, 1 October to 31 December, 1 January to 31 March, or 1 April to 30 June) so nothing falls between two exports. For a first upload, start from 1 July so your year-to-date figures are complete. Not sure which quarter you are in? See the BAS due dates.

After you export

Open the file once and check it has a date, a description and an amount for every line, and that it covers the whole period. Then upload it to FlowFi and your quarter is categorised in two minutes: every transaction gets a category and a confidence score, you review only the uncertain ones, GST is flagged per line, likely deductions are marked, and the BAS labels are prepared for you to copy into ATO Online.

No bank login, no bank feed and no access to your money. The file is the only thing that leaves your bank, and it is stored in Sydney.

Got the file? Upload it and see the quarter sorted

Then upload it to FlowFi and your quarter is categorised in two minutes, with GST flagged and every BAS label ready to copy.

Frequently asked questions

Is exporting a CommBank statement safer than connecting a bank feed?

It avoids sharing your CommBank login or granting ongoing access to the account. FlowFi never asks for bank credentials and never touches your money; you export the file yourself and upload it. The trade-off is a minute or two per account each month or quarter.

What if CommBank only gives me a PDF statement?

Upload the PDF. FlowFi reads the transaction table out of PDF statements. CSV is preferred because every line is a clean row, but a monthly PDF statement works, and you can upload all three months of a quarter together.

How far back should I export?

For a first upload, go back to 1 July so your year-to-date income, GST and deductions are complete. After that, export each quarter as it ends, or each month if you like to keep on top of it.
